The well-known parental blogger and partner of Western Bulldog Liam Picken has long been outspoken about online bullying and couch critics picking on the wives and girlfriends of AFL players on Brownlow Medal night.
So this year, Ms Nolan rocked a structured suit and thin black tie to match her husband, a former North Ballarat Rebel, and was pleased with the overall response.
“A big thank you for all the lovely comments and well wishes last night. Your support of us was overwhelming! Also a big thank you to my awesome team who helped us get there (all tagged below) Now it's over, we look towards next weekend,” Ms Nolan posted with a photo across social media platforms.
The Brownlow Medal dress code is black tie or evening gown. Ms Nolan’s intention to go “twinning” with her husband, both dressed by Carl Nave, was to spark conversation about unfair sexism directed towards women on the red carpet.
Ms Nolan opted for patent pumps and statement diamond earrings to soften the ensemble.
"Fashion is a visual expression of how you feel. And I feel the red carpet has been unfairly biased and cruel to women in the past.#bullyfreebrownlow,” Ms Nolan posted to followers before taking to the parade entering Crown Palladium.
Ms Nolan flagged in her blog ahead of last year’s Brownlow she once tolder her partner she wished she could wear a suit and be free of judgement, like all the boys at the event.
The couple has three young children, including twin three-year-old girls, and wed in Ballarat at St Patrick’s Cathedral in January.
Close friend Haylea Cooney, wife of 2008 Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney, wore her bridesmaid’s dress from the Nolan-Picken wedding. Ms Cooney has also been a proud supporter of the #BullyFreeBrownlow.
“ "Haven't you wore that before babe?" HELL YEAH I HAVE. Thanks @uncannyannieblog for buying my Brownlow dress this year ❤️#recycledbridesmaiddress,” Ms Cooney posted on Instagram.
