If that's you (and it's definitely us, journos don't get them either) here's some ways you might have known all your mates were having a day off.

You step on the morning train and you see this:

Yes, heaps of room to move on the train can be a bonus but it also means you get a massive eyeful of that horrible upholstery.

Or maybe you decided to avoid the dreaded weekend train timetable and drove to work.

Then you might have come across this:

It's normally packed but Hoddle Street felt like a dream this morning.

Both of those results aren't too bad until...

You try to get a coffee in the CBD and are forced to drink this:

Oh the humanity! Drink a cup of these freeze dried coffee granules and you'll be well aware that an entire metropolis has shut down for a football game.

Still, at least it's not International Roast.

Grab a cup of Joe, turn on your computer and your social media is full of this:

Everyone's having such a great time. Time to close Facebook and Instagram and think about what to have for lunch.

So you go to your favourite place and are confronted with this:

Only kidding. That's a photo of Detroit. But on public holidays the city definitely has that "abandoned in an economic downturn" ghost town feel about it.

So with the only option being Pie Face, you head back to the office and see this:

One packet of Twisties and a Snickers for dessert thanks. Or perhaps a Sesame Bar for those wanting a healthy option.

Finally work is over and it's Friday, normally you're up for a bit of this:

Just a couple of sherbets to end the day would be nice.

But it's a public holiday and everyone's already had their fun.

If you're paid by the hour that's fine, just go home and count your penalty rates: 

Everyone else, it's time for bed and be thankful you won't wake up tomorrow with a hangover.
