Glenlyon resident Simon Meadows will be part of the momentous occasion, which will be held on the steps of the Sydney Opera House – which will be transformed into a stage – from October 28 to November 5.
The performance Sydney Opera House – The Opera: The Eighth Wonder tells the true story of the iconic building’s creation and the nation’s “coming of age”.
Meadows will play three roles – writer, juror and reporter – in the Opera Australia production.
He studied at the VCA and has performed in a number of operas with Opera Australia including The Marriage of Figaro and La Bohème.
The opera will star Danish tenor Adam Frandsen and feature Gerry Connolly, Martin Buckingham and Stacey Alleaume.
The event will be performed live and the sound transmitted to the audience through state-of-the-art Audio Technica headphone. Singers will perform on the Sydney Opera House steps, with the orchestra performing inside, and the sound combined.
Opera Australia artistic director Lyndon Terracini said the stage would be illuminated projections, lighting and 3D printing.
