Let Williams take you on a night of soul, blues and reggae with a mixture of styles, intermingling interpretations of the well known and not so well known, and originals rubbing shoulders with sponteaneous musical happenings.
Williams will sing selections from Desmond Dekker, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles and 60s & 70s UK pop. He describes his music as "Marvin Gaye meets Joni Mitchell in a UK suburb over a pot of my mum's rice and peas." With an acoustic guitar and loop pedal, he has performed at Woodford Folk Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, International Jazz Day and the Bendigo Writers Festival.
Friday, Chris Scanlan, @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn
Scanlan is a local solo acoustic muso with a blues penchant.
Saturday, Wayne Parker and Michael Timcke Trio @ Horvat’s Supper Club, 7pm
Parker and Timcke are seasoned musicians, having played in numerous ensembles around the area and further afar. They teach music to energetic young students and still manage to find time for their passion.
Together, they perform a selection of music from some of the great composers and improvisers from the jazz idiom.
The trio consists of Timcke on tenor sax, Parker on guitar and Barry Deenick on bass and percussion.
Sunday, Kenny Joe Blake and Lauren Lee Williams @ Horvat’s Supper Club, 1pm
Grammy nominated songwriter and ex-3RRR radio presenter Kenny Joe Blake and prize-winning poet turned songwriter Lauren Lee Williams will make you laugh and ponder with their humorous, lived-in tales.
These two veteran wordsmiths play honest, original, acoustic roots music, without fake American accents.
Blake lives in Maldon, while Williams lives in Newstead. They've been working as a duo since last year, performing at festivals and venues around the Goldfields region, as well as some inner city gigs.
Blake was nominated for three Grammys in 1998 for a song he wrote for Peter Caulton. Slim Dusty recorded two Blake songs for his last album.
Blake is a long-time travelling troubadour, having lived and worked in all mainland states. He has recorded several solo CDs, as well as two with award winning bush band Terra Australis.
Williams is a published poet, her fourth book was released this year. Her first album, Union of Romantic Fools won the Tamworth Songwriters Association best new songwriter award in 2011, and her next, Campfire Girls, will be out later this year.
