Lieutenant General Morrison is a retired senior officer of the Australian Army and served as army chief from 2011 to 2015. He was named Australian of the Year for 2016 due to his campaigning for gender equality, diversity and inclusion.
He famously ordered troops to get out if they couldn’t accept women as equals, with a video that went viral and led to cultural change among Australia’s armed forces. He later spoke at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, alongside John Kerry and Angelina Jolie.
Since then, the number of women joining the army has grown by 2 per cent.
Lieutenant General Morrison will speak at the Geoffrey Blainey Auditorium, Mt Helen campus, on October 10 at 6pm.
RSVP by the close of business October 3 via 5327 9511 or publicrelations@federation.edu.au
