Police have already apprehended and arrested 17 of the 23 alleged offenders during the highly successful Victoria Police, Crime Stoppers and The Courier initiative.
Police have continued to release images of offenders wanted for volume crimes including theft of motor vehicle, burglary and aggravated burglary.
Crime Stoppers chief executive Sam Hunter applauded the community for its involvement in solving crime.
“Again, three of last week’s six offenders named were picked up within 24 hours,” said Ms Hunter.
“The people named as part of this campaign were wanted by police on arrest warrants for crimes committed against property within the Ballarat and surrounding area, such as aggravated burglaries, burglaries, theft and handling stolen goods.
“Thanks to the on-going support of the Ballarat community and media, these people will be held accountable for their actions. This campaign has truly demonstrated the power of a strong community and the information it holds.”
In week one, three of the six offenders were arrested within 24 hours, while the remaining three were in custody by Sunday evening.
This success continued throughout the four week campaign, with many offenders either handing themselves in to or located by police within hours of being publically named.
Ballarat Superintendent Andrew Allen said the community support for police had been unprecedented.
“Some of the offenders located handed themselves in as a result of the campaign, while others were located by police following information received from the community,” Superintendent Allen said.
“This campaign has demonstrated that together we can create a safer and more secure community in one of Victoria’s fastest growing regional areas.
“It has also sent out a powerful message to those committing crimes in our community – we will find you and you will be put before the courts to answer the allegations.”
Although the four-week campaign is coming to a close, Crime Stoppers and Victoria Police continue to urge the Ballarat community to be vigilant and report any information to the charity.
“Seven of the offenders named are still wanted by police and are believed to be in the Ballarat and surrounding area,” Ms Hunter said.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
