This comes after Ballarat experienced two thirds of the month’s average rainfall in just two days, with the Steve Moneghetti track around Lake Wendouree partially closed due to flooding.
Thirty eight millimetres of rainfall was recorded yesterday, with this month’s total already up to 46 millimetres.
The average rainfall for October is 66.8 millimetres.
Last month Ballarat recorded its wettest September since recordings began, surpassing the previous record of 162.9 millimetres in 1916.
The rain is expected to continue this afternoon along with the damaging winds and a chance of thunderstorms and hail.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines
However the wet weather isn’t expected to last with Thursday and Friday set to be sunny with a top of 21 degrees.
