Hoy has accepted an assistant coaching role.
Redan president Damian Linton said getting the signatures of the star duo – the Lions’ highest profile players and two of the biggest names in the BFL – was a major step in the club’s initial post-season focus of list retention under new coach Brendan Peace.
Horbury was Redan’s best and fairest this year, while Hoy made a big impact in the finals in what was a short playing stint with the Lions.
Hoy joined Redan from North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL this year, but spent most of the season overseas. He played just five games, including two finals.
Peace said Hoy would be a major asset to the Lions’ football department.
Linton said it was pleasing to have received a commitment from Horbury so early and was looking forward to having the match-winner undertake a full pre-season with the Lions.
Horbury has had interrupted starts to the past two seasons before lining up with Redan after twice having a change of mind as where he wanted to play.
After signing with the Roosters for 2015, Horbury requested a clearance to Redan.
The Roosters blocked the move until after the start of the VFL and BFL seasons before granting Horbury’s desire to play with the Lions.
Then this year after signing a contract with Redan, he sought a clearance to South Bendigo.
Horbury lost that battle and resumed playing with the Lions in round four.
He still did enough to represent the BFL and finish in the top 10 in the Henderson Medal.
