Wyndhamvale brothers Chris and Brian Graham are the first major signings announced by new Devils coach Heath Scotland.
Chris is a premiership captain with Wyndhamvale, while Brian was selected in the Vic Metro squad after starring for the WRFL against the Ballarat league in this year’s AFL Victoria Community Championship.
Scotland said the Grahams would add quality, class and depth to Darley’s midfield to cover the loss of Henderson Medallist Steve Kennedy.
Scotland played with their young brother Nick at Carlton.
Scotland said while confident of a high retention player rate, he was also looking to top up the list with quality recruits.
The Grahams are part of legendary football family in Gippsland, with their father a two-time North Gippsland Football League best and fairest.
Brian surpassed his father’s achievement when he won his third NGFL best and fairest while playing with Traralgon Tyers United in 2015. He was also voted the competition’s top player in 2012 and 2013.
He linked up with his brother at Wyndhamvale this year and enjoyed an outstanding season in WRFL division one.
As well as representing the WRFL, Brian Graham was named in the league team of the year and finished in the top 10 in the best and fairest.
Chris Graham captained Wyndhamvale to a WRFL division two premiership in 2015, which earned the club promotion, and was also best and fairest in that season.
Scotland’s recruiting strategy also features attracting former players back to the fold, just as he has done having been a Darley junior before being drafted by Collingwood.
