The BCA acknowledged the current sunny weather and improved forecast for the remainder of the week but said it would not be enough to allow play on the weekend opting to pull the pin due to potential damage to the grounds and risk to players safety.
The original plan was to have only firsts, seconds and one-day A grade competitions playing on Saturday but following further inspection to grounds the BCA has begrudgingly called off round one.
It is expected there will “almost certainly” be matches played next Sunday – due to ground availability - as the Ballarat Cricket Association looks to finally get the 2016-17 season underway.
