Having won the 3AW pub of the week and then pub of the month awards, The American scored just as highly as pubs across Melbourne.
Manager Brendan Smith said Creswick was on the cusp of being accepted as a food destination, like its neighbour Daylesford.
“That gave us something that little country pubs don’t have a lot of – the confidence we can provide something just as well as (our) brothers or peers in the industry,” he said.
“We just keep giving a go.”
Mr Smith said nearby producers like St Anne’s winery and Black Cat Truffles meant the pub’s eatery was able to offer special and unique local foods.
