Round one begins on October 18 with the field in excess of 100 players. The winner receives significant prize money for the trainee tour while also gaining qualification to the Australian PGA Championships in December – Australia’s biggest tournament. All these factors equate to the event being regarded as the premier event for all PGA trainees.
“They really chase this, the best trainees around really chase it,” Ballarat Golf Club general manager Michael Phillips said.
The club was rapt to again host the tournament which gives it great exposure around the country. Following the untimely weather, the course has been hit hard, but considering the weather the club could not be happier with how it has come up in time for the tournament.
“The course itself is looking really good, we’re really happy with the presentation.”
