A tree branch has brought down a power line in South Street, Ballarat Central.

Two onlookers checked in on the occupant of the house affected and said the man was unharmed and had already called emergency services.

A Ballarat SES crew and the police attended the scene.

Powercor has said the branch did not break the power line and no residents had been impacted by any power outages.

They expected the situation to be under control by 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

SES spokesperson Jacque Quaine said there had been five trees down within the Ballarat region since 9 o’clock Saturday morning due to the windy weather.

Winds are expected to reach peak gusts of up to 65 kilometres per hour in Ballarat.

Ms Quaine expected the same SES unit that attended South Street to go onto another incident in Mount Helen where a tree was threatening to fall and a building had sustained minor roof damage.

She urged the public to drive to the conditions and be wary of power lines that could be tangled in the branches.

She also said to avoid parking or sheltering under trees.
