A free agent, the former Ballarat Swans junior and North Ballarat Rebel has accepted a two-year deal from the Saints.
Ironically Brown’s twin brother Mitch almost moved from West Coast Eagles to St Kilda at the end of the 2012 season, but he rejected three-year contract to stay in Western Australia.
Nathan Brown, 27, was drafted with selection 10 in 2006 and played 130 games with Collingwood, including the 2010 premiership.
Collingwood stated on Sunday it would not match the St Kilda offer to Brown.
St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains told AFL.com.au that Brown would allow the Saints to fill a key need without compromising their overall trade position.
Mitch Brown, who is an unrestricted free agent is also seeking a new home in Victoria, with his wife Shae having signed to play with Collingwood in the newly formed National Netball League.
