In difficult conditions the Brewers slipped to a 4-0 deficit after the second innings as the Mariners hit four runs in its second dig.
However, Ballarat City responded – and then some. Producing back-to-back four-run innings while holding Port Melbourne runless.
After five innings, the Brewers took a 9-7 lead as Dan Hamilton took to the mound. He was influential in his two innings as pitcher – boasting a clean sheet. While the home side added three runs to its total to put it in firm control of the match at the bottom of the seventh.
Port Melbourne hit four runs in its eighth stint to put the heat back on the Brewers - but it again delivered.
Brendan Walsh hit an in-park home run to hand the side two runs and a total of 14.
Scott Jones and Leigh Ashmore led the side for hits with three apiece, while Jones cashed in for four RBI’s (Runs batted in).
