Ballarat tastes success at the 2016 Murrun Dhelk Statewide Koori Football Netball Carnival

The Ballarat Wanderers claimed the division two title at the 2016 Murrun Dhelk Statewide Koori Football Netball Carnival in Bendigo over the weekend.

The Wanderers advanced through the group stage to the final undefeated before accounting for Bendigo in the grand final by 35 points - 9.9 (63) to 4.4 (28).

Coach Peter Lovett said the carnival was a great experience, particularly for its young players who rubbed shoulders with former AFL player Brett Goodes.

“We had a lot of young lads in the team this year - 14 years to 47 – a great range of players,” Lovett said.

“The fact that we had Brett Goodes playing in the side really inspired a lot of the younger players.

“Just his presence on the field really helped the nerves and his leadership on the ground. It was really great to get an opportunity to play with an ex-AFL star.”
