The woman, who was the only occupant of the car, noticed smoke coming from the engine bay area and parked the vehicle before it came alight at around 9am.
The Ballarat City Fire Brigade and police attended the incident, at 302 Sturt Street, Ballarat Central.
Senior Sergeant Stacey Glenister said the CFA extinguished the fire, which she believed was caused by an electrical fault. She said the fire was not suspicious.
Ballarat City Fire Brigade station officer Tony Hope said no injuries had been sustained, but the vehicle had been written-off and had to be towed away.
The incident blocked Sturt Street for about 30 minutes.
