A field of six has been assembled for the first of three trials, with Ballarat trainer Darren Weir having two of those starters. A Helmet-Ilithyia filly called Cheeky As and an unnamed colt by Dreamscape out of Absolutely Livid are Weir’s runners.
Ballarat/Caulfield trainer Robert Smerdon also has a starter named Rioli, who is a Sepoy-Our Tigress colt.
Other runners include Luke Oliver’s Majestueux, Peter Morgan’s Super Snob and Tony McEvoy’s Eloquent King.
Ballarat Turf Club chief executive Lachlan McKenzie said other than horses from New South Wales and Queensland – where racing is conducted in the clockwise direction – all horses must jump-out at BTC in one of the scheduled reverse way-of-going trials in order to qualify for the race, which carries prizemoney of $200,000 and is one of the highlights of Ballarat Cup day on November 19.
