Funding from the Infrastructure Investment Program and will address four priority projects identified by council through road reviews and community feedback.
Projects to be carried out with the funding include $375,000 for shoulder sealing and the installation of edge lines, raised reflective pavement markers, street lighting, guard fences and a signage upgrade along a 700-metre section of the Ross Creek-Haddon Road between Bull Inn Court and Thomas Road.
More than $635,000 will provide for similar works along a 3.4-kilometre section of the Smythesdale-Snake Valley Road between Hillcrest Road and Heales Street at Smythesdale.
Meanwhile, $590,000 has been allocated to address a 2.5-kilometre section of the Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road between Pascoe Street and Incolls Road.
A 2.3-kilometre section of the Meredith Steiglitz Road between Pioneer Ridge Road and Eclipse Road will have its shoulders sealed and edge lines installed through a $475,000 allocation.
Funding will also see signage introduced to reduce the speed limit to 60km/h.
Golden Plains chief executive Rod Nicholls said the roads are crucial to the larger network.
“Golden Plains Shire’s road network is one of the larger local government road networks in Victoria, with 1,837 kilometres of sealed roads, gravel roads and unformed roads,” he said.
“Good roads are integral to a happy and safe community – as well as key to the success of our farmers and producers.”
