With less than two months to go until Christmas, Australia Post is encouraging children in Ballarat to post their letters to Santa early this year, to ensure the man in red has a chance to reply before coming to town.

Black Hill Post Office owner Troy Cheesman said they've already had one little girl post her Santa letter off bright and early on the morning of October 1, and said children who sent their letters off before Christmas would get something in return.
"They'll get an official letter back from Santa," Mr Cheesman said.
It's easy for children to send their wishlist off to the North Pole. Just address the letter to Santa Claus, North Pole, 9999 with a 65c Christmas stamp on the front of the envelope and post it in the big red, green and gold Santa mail box in the Black Hill Post Office in Peel Street North.
The letters must have names and return addresses clearly marked on the back otherwise Santa and his little helpers in the North Pole won’t know where to send their postcard reply.
