The East Ballarat Cricket Club exports have been selected for a four-day clash with Queensland in the Futures League at Allan Border Field in Brisbane from Monday.
They are members of the Bushrangers’ main squad, with Thomson in his first season as a rookie.
Thomson made 89 and 28 not out in a drawn match against Western Australia in his Future League debut in round one.
He has also just been selected to represent Victoria in the national under-19 championships.
Short returns to the state team after representing Cricket Australia in the interstate one-day competition, in which he was vice-captain and averaged 43.67, and a two-day tour match against South Africa in Adelaide.
He captained Australia against South Africa and top scored with 57 in a team total of 103.
Like Thomson, Short was still playing under-19s when he first played in the Future Leagues four years ago.
