Trainer and owner Michael Vandeleur, who started pig racing in Australia, has been in the industry for 23 years and said that most people don’t know what to expect during a race.
“I think they expect to see them nose about the grass and scramble over the jumps but instead they're fast,” Mr Vandeleur said.
It takes six weeks of training before the pigs are put before an audience and Mr Vandeleur said the races are over in five to seven seconds.
“They love to run, but you’ve got to make things entertaining for them and make sure it’s a good environment.”
The pig racing will be on four times a day with the first race starting Friday at 11am in the Broadhead Arena.
