Berto has been playing music and songwriting for the past nine years.
She has a bluesy, soulful, creative voice and her own poetic lyrics. Her songs feature a combination of blues, jazz, soul, funk and reggae.
She has had strong musical influences from her father, growing up on the sounds of Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and The Beatles.
Friday, Geoffrey Willliams @ The Grande
Last gig at the venue for the year, where Williams will share his Nina Simone and Bill Withers show. A night of soul, blues and reggae, intermingling interpretation of the well known and not so well known, originals rubbing shoulders with sponteaneous musical happenings. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal, Williams recently performed at Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival.
Saturday, Caroline Gale @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn
Gale is a passionate musician who has performed at many venues in Melbourne and Broome, WA. She has a high vocal range and plays both guitar and piano. She likes to create variety when she performs mixing her sets with both originals and covers.
Saturday, Jude Parsons Trio @ Horvat’s Supper Club
The reformed Jude Parsons Trio includes two of the original members, vocalist Jude Parsons and guitarist Bruce Millar, with Dean Thomas on keys. The musical rapport is evident.
Saturday, Jazz Deuce @ Perfect Drop
Featuring Norm Gray on flugelhorn and vocals and Simon Wigney on guitar, Jazz Deuce plays the great American jazz standards of the 1930s-50s. Tunes made popular by Sinatra, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart and Jobim provide a nice background to wining, dining and relaxing.
Sunday, Karl S Williams @ Old Hepburn Hotel
Born into a non-musical family and named after a criminal from the future, none can be bothered to unravel the twisted line that led Karl S Williams to the blues and perverted him into a guitar-slinging, banjo-wielding freak with a penchant for hellfire.
Heavenly salvation, and writing about himself in the third person. Where else? The local pub.
