DON Colbert has been selected to represent Australia in eight ball after winning the Australian Masters singles title last week on the Gold Coast.
The Ballarat player took out Melbourne’s John Howson (who has won a world Masters title) in the final, winning eight to two in an hour-and-a-half match.
In the semi-final, Colbert knocked out the favourite Steve Gray, who had shown good form throughout the competition, to claim his spot in the final.
Victoria took four of the six titles at the event, also winning the men’s and women’s team events and the Australian singles title.
This is the first time Colbert has been selected to represent Australia.
“I didn’t think I’d achieve representing Australia after a few near misses – so it’s definitely a big buzz,” Colbert said.
“I take a pretty solid approach. Every shot, I got balls in.”
Colbert managed the men’s team as well.
Representatives from all the states and territories participated in the 12-day event, which featured around 300 of the country’s best eight ball players.
