Ballarat ballet dancer Callum Linnane has received the highest honour of his career after taking out the Telstra Ballet Dancer Award at the Sydney Opera House on Friday, earning a $20,000 cheque in the process.

The former St Patrick’s College student moved to the Australian Ballet School as a 12-year-old before being accepted into the Australian Ballet Company in 2015.
The 21-year-old typically performs at the State Theatre in Melbourne or the Sydney Opera House, and has danced in ballets such as The Upper Roomand In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated. He has also danced the principal role in Symphony in C.
Speaking to The Courier in August, Mr Linnane said “I was fortunate to find something I loved so much at such a young age...This career is too difficult unless you’re passionate about it”.
