All the work has already been done with Rebel Dane for next Sunday's Hong Kong International Sprint, with trainer Gary Portelli wanting him to be fresh when he takes on the world at Sha Tin.

The seven-year-old left Sydney on Sunday afternoon ready to fire in Hong Kong, with his different preparation for one of the world's biggest sprint races complete.

"We wanted to have all his gallops done here before he went," Portelli said. "We have him ready to go and it will be just a jog-and-canter job with him once he gets there.

"We wanted him fresh, that is how he races best. He had a good hit-out on the course proper [at Warwick Farm] on Thursday morning and we put him over a couple of logs on Wednesday."

That came after he won a Rosehill barrier trial last month. It is a pattern which saw Rebel Dane spring back to winning form in the Manikato Stakes to earn his spot in Hong Kong.

Rebel Dane has always been among the top sprinters in the country and he has raced 21 times at group 1 level for two wins, a second in the TJ Smith to Lankan Rupee in 2014, two thirds and another five fourths.

"He has been racing at the top level since he was three and to still be able to match it at seven shows how tough he actually is," Portelli said.

"You are always looking for something that might find him that little bit extra and, for him, it has been the blinkers and a bit of jumping.

"It has freshened his mind and the blinkers have focused him, so he can be that bit closer. We went back in the Premiere Stakes when he ran seventh to Takedown but he really had no chance the way the race was run.

"His sectionals said he was flying, so that's why we went to the Manikato and there he was able to be closer and you saw what happened."

Portelli will fly to Hong Kong after morning gallops on Tuesday and would like an inside gate for Rebel Dane at the barrier draw on Thursday.

"I really want to draw inside five because that would put him in the perfect position," he said. "I think that is very important for him because we don't want to be giving up a big start. We know he has has a big finish and if he is close to them on the turn, he will be in the finish."

Meanwhile, Australia's other representative, Winterbottom Stakes-winner Takedown, has settled into Hong Kong after travelling back from Perth to Melbourne before flying overseas.

"We just want to get him back to his winning weight," trainer Gary Moore said. "He is very happy and has coped with the travel well."
