The inaugural Biennale of Australian Art opening in Ballarat in 2018 has scored a major coup with the appointment of Andrew Walsh AM as its CEO and executive producer.

Mr Walsh is a 30-year veteran of theatrical and event production, having produced and directed large-scale events all over the world.
His career includes being creative director of the widely acclaimed Centennial Ceremony for Australia’s Centenary of Federation, director of ceremonies for the 2003 Rugby World Cup, director and producer of London’s Millennium celebrations, executive producer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and 2011 Special Olympic Games, and executive producer and creative director of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies.
Mr Walsh was also the founding CEO and artistic director of White Night Melbourne from 2013-2016, now Melbourne’s largest public event.
“The exciting thing about BOAA is that it’s unique; there isn’t another biennial review of contemporary art in the country,” Mr Walsh said.
“There are lots of practicing artists in and around Ballarat. It’s really an opportunity to bring art back to the forefront. Ballarat is and has always been a community engaged in the arts.”
