Help needed during time of change
On the 7th of December 2016 Councillor Daniel Moloney met with residents of Lydiard Street in regards to a proposed bus interchange which will impact residential proprieties, businesses and the public. On behalf of all residents we would like to thank Councillor Daniel Moloney for his interest and time listening to the many concerns that will impact the lives of Ballarat's community. On the 8th of December 2016 this week, a letter was sent to Jacinta Allan MP, Minister for Public Transport and Major Projects. We hope to meet with our minister to talk further on the proposed bus interchange, and impact to residential proprieties, businesses and the public. It was good to receive correspondence from the minister's office and we are waiting a response. As a resident within the rail precinct, we are mentally and physically exhausted with worry and stress.

The face of homelessness
Many think homelessness looks like older men in doorways with cardboard signs. And that's to be expected as it's very often the only visible homelessness people are exposed to. The reality is that a homeless person in our community is more likely to look like a child. Despite popular belief, children are one of the largest groups of Australians experiencing homelessness. Children under the age of 18 make up more than a quarter of people experiencing homelessness. The leading cause of homelessness for children is a lack of safety at home. For adults, homelessness is very tough. For a child, it is devastating, and we know that our childhood experiences determine the adults we become. Women and children need protection from violence in the home, and protection from the further traumatisation of homelessness. Imagine if living with your children in a car or staying on friends' couches is a better option than what you face at home. This Christmas, think about the younger face of homelessness because even when you can't see it, it's certainly there.
