Lane will join Dallas Crane, The Riflebirds, Michael Meeking and the Lost Souls and The Houndlings in providing the rock background behind the day of non-stop craft beers at City Oval.
Lane is known for being lead guitarist with iconic rock band You Am I, as well as his guitar skills alongside the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Crowded House and The Wrights.
He said he was looking forward to returning to Ballarat after playing the 2016 festival with You Am I and having played at the Bridge Mall Inn years earlier with his band The Pictures alongside The Meanies and The Living End.
Lane, who also works on a range of side projects including solo albums and records with his current band The Creatures, said having so much on the go meant he had “a certain amount of juggling to be done”.
“I’ve always enjoyed being kept on my toes in that regards,” he said.
“I kind of like having a constant stream of chords and melodies going through my head. It doesn’t do wonders for my sleeping patterns, but...I think if I have more than three or four days off I start to twiddle my thumbs and get restless and start getting depressed.
“I’m in a very fortunate position where I’m able to play music full time and keep a roof over my head playing music. When I’m not working on music, I’m listening to music or driving my girlfriend nuts with music documentaries.”
Lane also said he was just as likely to be found in his living room listening to John Farnham as something uber-cool and contemporary.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not a snob when it comes to music. If I hear something on the radio that someone deems a guilty pleasure, I’m unabashed about it, it’s not a guilty pleasure. I like some daggy music. I don’t mind saying I love ELO or the 80s works of Queen,” he said.
“(But) my record collection is pretty diverse – there’s a whole bunch of stuff I have that would probably pass the coolness test.”
Dallas Crane, which released Scoundrels last year, will also headline the event for the second year running.
