Lamb played his junior football with Redan while his brother, Lachlan, is still at the club and the temptation to return to home and be close to family was one too big.
The versatile star is a significant coup for the club. In Lamb’s last season with the Lions in 2013 he finished runner-up in the Henderson Medal and was also apart of its 2011 premiership team.
Redan’s director of football Grant Polkinghorne said it was great to have Lamb back on board.
“Certainly from our point of view he’s a key recruit for us,” Polkinghorne said.
“It’s exciting to have him back and good for the league as well as. A lot of the work to get him back was done himself, he wanted to come back and play at Redan and play with his brother.
“I think he wanted to come back home and be closer to the family.”
Before Lamb left the club to move interstate he played mainly in defence, but Polkinghorne said the club believed he could play at either end of the ground.
His ability to read the play and be a force overhead allowed the club great flexibility when it came to placing their big recruit.
Polkinghorne said ideally the club would use the medium-sized Lamb as a third tall at either end of the ground, but did add that he felt Lamb was capable of being one of the league’s leading goal-kickers.
“We think he’s got the potential to be a 60-70 goal-kicker so where we use him will be horses for courses.
“His best footy is ahead of him and he’ll be a key player for us whether it’s forward or back – he’s a natural reader of the game.
“We’d be hoping that if we can fill those key position posts that he can play that third floater at either end of the ground.”
