MINER Sam Short and the Australian Emus have captured silver in the FIBA under-18 Oceania Championships in Fiji. A six-point loss to New Zealand in the gold medal match has cost the Emus a spot in next year’s under-16 basketball world championships in Egypt. The Emus struggled offensively in the final on Saturday evening but snatched the lead in the final term only for the Kiwi captain to nail a three-pointer and all-but seal the gold.

Meanwhile, Rush point guard Abbey Wehrung confirmed her dangerous form, scoring 15 points off the bench and shooting at 46 per cent accuracy in the field in her 50th Women’s National Basketball League match.
