Kommer is the latest and best credentialed of a long list of Melton South recruits following the appointment of Brendan Fevola and Sean Triplett as co-coaches.
Kommer, 26, played 22 games and kicked 13 goals for the Bombers across 2013-2016.
After joining the club as a mature-age recruit following strong form in the Western Australian Football League with East Perth, Kommer played 19 games in his first season, but has struggled with knee tendinitis since which ruled him out of the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Kommer managed just three games in 2016 and was delisted.
The dangerous small forward stands at 185cm and impressed at AFL level with his attack on the ball and presence in the forward once the ball hit the ground.
