The reigning premiers won their last three games and showed that it will again be a contender for this year’s premiership, and it’s bid will be enhanced by all-rounder Lambert.
Lambert, who captained the Jamaican national team, was relieved to finally land on Australian soil after a delayed process. He is hoping to pass on his experience and knowledge to the side, but his first priority will be to prove himself as a cricketer.
“It’s been a while coming...I’ve always wanted to come to Australia and showcase my skills and see what their cricket is all about,” Lambert said.
“I’ve been doing well as a leader for a number of years, with my experience hopefully I can pass on my leadership to a number of players.
“But when you turn up to a new club, you want to make sure of your performance, that’s the first thing. Stand up and lead from the front, if I can pass on my experience to the younger players and some of the senior guys then I will have done my job.”
Darley sits atop the BCA first grade ladder and has enjoyed an impressive start to the season. The only blemish on the Lions card is a loss to Mt Clear, but it has claimed the scalp of Golden Point.
It and Wendouree, who bounced back with a vengeance after a surprise loss to North Ballarat in round three, creates a top three that looks to be the lead pack of the BCA first grade. The trio all sit on 27 points with just one loss each.
In the early stages of the season it looked as though the Mounties were cemented in the top echelon of the ladder, but a nose-dive in form over the final two rounds has brought it back to the pack.
Mt Clear were thumped by a hungry Red Caps outfit in round five, but the shock loss came against Nap-Sebas last week. Mt Clear remains in fourth position, but has some honest questions to be answered if it is to return to the form that had it as flag fancies early in the season.
Of the chasing pack, Napoleons-Sebastopol bodes as the form side when cricket season recommences on January 7. It won its final two matches after a slow start to the season and, along with East Ballarat, is percentage outside the top four.
Brown Hill, Ballarat-Redan and North Ballarat all have one win next to their names.
