It was the first time either of the Ballarat bowlers had registered the perfect score of 300 in competition.
12 months ago Mattei bowled a perfect game in practice, but he could not officially tick it off his list until he delivered it in competition. Mattei, who has been bowling for 26 years, said it was a great moment and something that he had been hoping to do for a long time.
“Pretty excited. It’s one of those things that you want, I go in every time to do it – it’s been a long time coming,” Mattei said.
“It was a bit of a nervous shot on that last one.”
Allen, 44, has been bowling since he was nine years old and said it was a surreal feeling to deliver a childhood dream.
“It’s the highest achievement you could possibly do as far as that goes, a personal best,” Allen said.
“It was hard, your heart’s going a million miles an hour. It was a long time coming, quite surreal.”
Mattei bowls regularly with an average of 216, while Allen is only bowling once a week now, he averages 175.
