J and M Catering was fully booked on the weekend of the robbery at Heritage Diner, owner Mark Batchelor said.
The burglary on December 17 was the second time the business had been burgled inside of three months, taking about $10,000 of stock combined.
“They had jimmied the front door and took about $6000 worth of stock that I needed for the next day’s functions, we were fully booked for catering,” he said.
“They took a lot of steak, a lot of seafood, the craziest thing they took all my ice cream out of my ice cream fridge.
“They took nearly every chocolate bar I had in the place.”
Mr Batchelor went on to cater all functions within 24 hours of the break-in with stock re-ordered first thing on Saturday morning.
“We still fed nearly 500 people that night, it was a lot of hard work but really it came off very well,” he said.
“I’m not going to ring them and say ‘I had a break-in, I can’t do it’.”
About two months before the most recent robbery thieves broke into the diner stealing a chocolate fountain, knife sharpeners and a stand of jewelry which a staff member had been selling at the counter.
