Fuzhou is a city in Fujian Province, which has a population of 38 million people. The delegation spent 10 days in Australia and other countries and made a deliberate decision to visit Ballarat because of the historical connection that many southern Chinese made during the gold rushes.
The delegation received a formal reception hosted by Ballarat’s mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh before being taken on a tour that included Kryal Castle and Lake Wendouree, as well as seeing the Chinese section of Sovereign Hill.
Fuzhou hosts one of only four Pilot Free Trade Zones (FTZs) in China. Ballarat company Ozdragon is working to establish export opportunities between Australia and Fuzhou, especially with food and beverage companies.
