Mundy was announced on Wednesday as the new holder of the position, replacing Mark Patterson, who vacated the role in July last year.
The former Telstra area manager said he has been a “silent observer” of the issues surrounding the club in recent times and hopes to provide a “new future” when he takes on the position later this month.
It has been a turbulent period at North Ballarat in recent times, highlighted by the sacking of the Roosters’ triple premiership coach Gerard FitzGerald, cashflow issues, strong discussion about the club’s place in the Victorian Football League and the departures of a number of NBFC board members, including the resignation of chairman Jenny Bromley just last month.
“Importantly from me, I think the role is about me coming in and establishing a new future and showing leadership. And that’s exactly what I want to try and do,” Mundy said.
“I’m not in any way under any illusions about the size and the magnitude of the role that I’m taking on and the challenges that are certainly there.”
Mundy said his vision for the Roosters’ place in the VFL is in line with the North Ballarat Football Club board.
The Roosters are committed to the 2017 season, which begins in April.
“I need to get my feet under the table so that I can have a good look at the business and complete a strategic review and make sure that we’re doing the right things and ensure that the pathway forward with respect to the Roosters is maintained,” he said.
NBFC interim chairman Shaune Moloney was thrilled to announce Mundy’s appointment to the job.
“As a board, we are incredibly pleased with this appointment because we believe Bill is going to provide us with the leadership, the business experience, the corporate experience we’re looking for to lead our club forward from this point on,” Moloney said.
Mundy, who is finishing up in his role at Federation University and will maintain his association with the Sovereigns netball club, is set to commence at North Ballarat on January 23.
