The Red Caps won the toss and elected to bowl and struck early. Sam Jackson dismissed opener James Hartnell with just three runs on the board to give Wendouree the perfect start.
Golden Point dug in and put on a number of handy partnerships, but none could go on to make a significant dint on the scoreboard. The early wickets meant the Pointies were always battling with the run rate and eventually finished its 50 overs at 8-167 – Jackson the pick of the bowlers with 3-19.
Golden Point looked to be doing similar with the ball, as it claimed the early wicket of skipper Cole Roscholler for a duck.
Wendouree sat at 3-56 as the game looked to be in the balance, but an unbeaten 115-run partnership between Heath Pyke and Liam Brady guided the Red Caps to a comfortable seven-wicket win. Pyke made 65* while Brady contributed 43* as Wendouree got home in the 41st over.
Wendouree will clearly turn its attention to Darley next week as it looks to remove another ladder leader from its perch. While Golden Point will take on East Ballarat as it monitors skipper Josh White – who retired hurt after a nasty knock to the head.
