Firefighters have battled to contain a grass fire in Melbourne's west near the scene of two suspicious fires that broke out on Saturday night.

The fire in Thistledown Court, Cairnlea, was reported around 11.20am Sunday, just 500 metres from the scene of one of two suspicious fires brought under control on Saturday.
In the first incident, MFB firefighters were called to a blaze in Fitzgerald Road, Sunshine West, shortly before 8pm.

As they battled the six-hectare fire, which sent smoke billowing over the Western Ring Road, they were called to another fire nearby in Federation Walk, Cairnlea.
CFA joined MFB firefighters to contain the 15-hectare fire, which destroyed a disused rotunda.
Earlier part of the Western Freeway was closed due to a grassfire at Ravenhall.
CFA spokesman Craig Ludeman said the fire in Christies Road, near the Western Freeway, started about 6.10pm on Saturday.
That blaze was not deemed suspicious.
Saturday's Sunshine West and Cairnlea fires are believed to be suspicious and have been referred to Victoria Police for investigation.
