The now Melbourne-based Ballarat athlete will be a backmarker in the $7600 120m dash at the Eastern Oval on Saturday, February 4, and Sunday, February 5.
Bee is among the form sprinters on the Victorian Athletic League circuit this season.
He launched his campaign with a series of 70m wins at Sandringham, Terang and Northcote late last year.
While he has gone close – third at Burnie on new year’s day and second at Rye at the weekend – the Maribyrnong 24-year-old is yet to land a gift this season.
And he knows Ballarat will not be any easier from what he expects to be a 0.75m handicap for him – the mark he has run off all season.
Bee said he was more than happy with his form, but the tight mark was making it tough to break through.
With his fitness and strength continuing to build, Bee is now finished with a 70m program and focusing on 120m and 400m.
He will enter the backmarkers’ 400m in Ballarat and believes this will be his best chance of a victorious homecoming under the guidance of legendary coach John Henry.
In the meantime there will be no rest for Bee.
He will compete at St Albans this week and then Maribyrnong and Wangaratta in the lead up to Ballarat.
Ballarat Gift entries close on Friday with the women’s gift also offering $7600 in prizemoney.
All Gift heats will be run on the Saturday, with semi-finals and finals on Sunday.
