It has been reported a hairy, four-legged creature could be seen wondering the streets of Ballarat North in the early hours of Wednesday morning in what is believed to be suspicious behaviour.
Picked up at 3am, the unknown creature - who was soon identified as a dog between the ages of 7-10 years - was taken back to the Ballarat Police Station.
In a turn of events, the unknown dog quickly grew fond of its rescuers and settled in for the night.
But unfortunately the little dog did not meet recruiting standards and could not stay on.
The news of the lost dog quickly spread over Facebook, with more than 425 shares across the state looking for the dog’s owners.
He, or she, was handed into authorities this morning to be checked for a microchip.
