Better known as “Scoreboard Pete”, Ciaston returned to the greens after an extended lay-off resulting from serious injuries suffered in a cycling accident early last season.
He came off his bike at the roundabout on the corner of Dana and Albert Streets near Ballarat police station.
By chance there was an ambulance parked at the police station so paramedics were able to attend to him quickly. He was airlifted to Melbourne in a critical condition and spent several months in rehabilitation.
Ciaston said he was very tired towards the final ends of Saturday’s division six match.
His skipper Don Ross had high praise for Ciaston’s draw bowling on the open hand, describing it as “magnificent” in helping their rink to a 12-shot win.
BMS had a six-shot victory over Ballarat North on the day.
