In order to help those in Eastern Europe suffering from a bitterly cold winter, a group of Ballarat citizens are knitting a range of much needed warm clothing and woollen goods and sending them to Ukraine, Bulgaria and various other countries.
‘Operation Cover Up’ runs entirely on wool and other supplies donated by the community, and according to organiser Lois Birch, is driven by the participant’s desire to help others.
“A lot of us have been knitting for groups that shut down, and wanted to join a group that could also help others,” Mrs Birch said.
“We’re here to help needy people with no protection from the bitter cold”.
