Jamie Brincat, who was charged with attempted murder over the October 9 incident, appeared briefly before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Thursday for committal mention.
Police allege Brincat shot a 24-year-old man in the stomach at Wendouree, with an investigation commencing after the victim took himself to Ballarat Base Hospital during the afternoon of October 9.
On Thursday Brincat, who also faces a number of firearm offences, appeared via videolink from the Melbourne Metropolitan Remand Centre.
His lawyer, David Taminika, sought an adjournment for further discussions to be had.
The matter will return to court on February 16.
