White visited hospital twice last week following head knocks, firstly after a fielding incident in the T20 semi-final win over Wendouree on Tuesday evening and again on Saturday after he was hit in the face with a delivery during the one-day firsts encounter, also against the Red Caps.
Pointies president Mark Van De Heuvel said a hip issue – sustained during the accident on Tuesday – was also significant and will contribute to White remaining on the sidelines for the game against the Mounties.
Van De Heuvel said White, who has not taken part at training this week, has been instructed to gain medical clearance for his head knocks before he will be allowed to play on Saturday in the firsts.
“At the end of the day, a person’s welfare is more important than a game of cricket and that’s the bottom line,” he said.
“I don’t care if it’s a bloke in the fifths or a bloke in the firsts.
“All clubs, not just us, have got a duty of care towards their members and that’s the most important thing.”
White, who led the club to a long-awaited firsts premiership last season, has enjoyed a solid 2016-17 campaign with the willow.
In his six A-grade hits, White has made 191 runs at an average of 47.8. His top score of 100 came in the round four encounter with Napoleons-Sebastopol.
He has also batted three times during the Twenty20 competition, registering scores of 58, 1 and 17.
White said he accepted the club’s cautious approach to his situation.
“As much as I’d like to be playing, it’s not really the most important thing,” he said.
“I’d rather be right for Saturday, but it doesn’t diminish Friday night’s game at all - it’s still very important.”
On Thursday afternoon, White told The Courier he isn’t feeling too bad, except for a little bit of tiredness.
He said the latest head knocks have come about eight years after he was left unconscious and broke his elbow in another on-field incident while playing in A-grade for the Pointies.
Golden Point won its way through to Friday’s grand final after a bowl-off against Wendouree. This came after scores were tied at the completion of the two innings.
The Pointies meet a Mt Clear outfit that topped the ladder during the regular rounds and progressed to the decider with victory over Brown Hill in the semi-finals.
Mt Clear is undefeated in the Twenty20 season and is chasing its first BCA crown since winning it in 2012/13.
Golden Point last won the T20 title two seasons ago.
Friday night’s final – rescheduled after last week’s match was abandoned due to heavy rain – is set to begin with the first ball from 7pm at Northern Oval.
