Klain trailed Midlands’ Corey Haase by two strokes heading into Saturday’s second round at Buninyong, but has turned that deficit into a two-shot advantage.
After shooting 70, Buninyong’s Travis Tatt is equal second alongside Haase, who carded 73 on Saturday.
In the women’s division, multiple champion Helen Pascoe scored 77 and leads fellow Buninyong member Amy Leeson – who also shot 77 – by three. Ballarat’s Sophie Byrne carded a total of 80 and sits two shots behind Leeson.
The third and final round of competition gets underway on Sunday at Midlands Golf Club.
