Thomas Huby, 25, appeared briefly before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Monday for a filing hearing.
Late last Thursday Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged Huby with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death and other traffic-related offences following the April 23 crash at Cardigan.
It is alleged Huby was travelling east on Remembrance Drive when the car veered off the road and crashed into a tree near Draffins Road.
Four-year-old Isabella Huby, who was the only passenger, was taken to the Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The accused is due to return to court on March 30 for committal mention.
