Taiyoo, who won 14 races in a glittering career, was euthanised after being injured during the running of the Summer Cup at Hobart on Sunday afternoon.
The seven-year-old gelding died as Weir’s second highest winner of individual races, sitting behind former stablemate Gotta Take Care, who won 20 throughout his career.
Taiyoo collected close to $700,000 in prizemoney.
Highlights of his racing journey were wins in the group 3 Lord Reims Stakes at Morphettville and the listed Torney Night Cup at Moonee Valley, with his most recent success coming in the Kyneton Cup in November last year.
Following that run, Taiyoo backed up into the Ballarat Cup, but finished 13th.
Regular rider Brad Rawiller, who partnered the horse in his final race on Sunday, tweeted of his sadness at losing Taiyoo.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of Taiyoo today in Hobart! Has been such a great horse to me and everyone at @DKWeirRacing & @ATBloodstock #RIP,” he tweeted.
Rawiller was on Taiyoo’s back for six of his victories.
Taiyoo, by Haradasun out of Ambers Halo, was owned by Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, which is based out of Ballan.
