Traffic was diverted from about 4.30pm between Forest Street and Burnbank Street.  The lakeside area and the Steve Moneghetti running and walking track were also closed to pedestrians.

The leak is believed to have been caused by an excavator striking a gas line. The evening run for some just became twice as long as police have turned back runners and walkers from the exclusion zone.

Traffic is advised to avoid the area.
