Ms Haintz applied for the role as retirement approached and was looking for something to do. She said it was one of the best decisions she has ever made.
“I just love it – I love helping people, meeting people and I love telling people about all that Ballarat has to offer,” Ms Haintz said.
“It’s a very rewarding experience and you’re learning every day… I would recommend anyone looking for something to do to take on volunteer work regardless of what field they want to work in.”
Visit Ballarat chief executive officer Noel Dempsey said its volunteers played a key role in promoting the city to people from all over Australia and the world.
“They are the faces of Ballarat and unveil the secrets of our region,” he said. “(Lorraine) is a joy to have in the Town Hall and her local knowledge, passion and love make her a real asset to the volunteer team.”
